Gutters, ridges and roof edges
When water shows near the outside wall, it is tempting to blame the gutter alone. The last course of tiles, the support beneath them and the gutter position all influence how water leaves a pitched roof. For a Cross Gates enquiry, explain whether the problem occurs at a joint, along an entire edge or beneath a roof valley.
Finding the cause
An inspection should check the gutter fall and outlet, but also the eaves detail above it. If ridge pieces are loose, ask whether the proposed work deals with their fixing as well as the visible mortar. These are distinct items and should be priced clearly.
Planning your roofing work
Mention a driveway, attached garage or conservatory beneath the eaves. The equipment required for one elevation may differ from the other side of the house.
What belongs in your quote
A clear quote sets out the materials, access and waste removal, as well as the repair itself. It should also explain what happens if opening the roof reveals further damage, so you know how any extra work will be agreed.
