Main roofs and rear extensions
A Kirkstall enquiry can involve a main pitched roof, a smaller rear roof or the junction between neighbouring properties. On a terrace, water around a chimney breast may have travelled from flashing or a valley higher up. A photograph of the whole roof arrangement is more useful than a close-up of the damp patch alone.
Finding the cause
Ask for the covering, chimney flashing and adjoining roof detail to be assessed as one route for water. If slates have slipped, the inspection should consider their fixings and the surrounding battens before recommending either individual replacements or a larger strip-off.
Planning your roofing work
For work above a rear extension, mention any alley, shared passage or courtyard. The access plan must account for the roof underneath, without treating it as a working platform.
What belongs in your quote
A clear quote sets out the materials, access and waste removal, as well as the repair itself. It should also explain what happens if opening the roof reveals further damage, so you know how any extra work will be agreed.
Use the roofing quotation checklist or understand the main cost factors.
