Materials that suit your roof
Pudsey’s appraisal identifies both heavy stone-slate and Welsh-slate roofs in the older study area. They should not be treated as interchangeable when planning a repair or replacement. Establish what is on your roof, what supports it and how any later extension joins it. If a different covering is proposed, ask which changes to the structure, edges and fixings are included in the price.

Finding the cause
The survey should explain what has failed and what can remain. Where an alternative material is suggested, compare its technical requirements with the existing structure. The quotation should include junctions, ventilation and any agreed work to ridges or gutters.
Planning your roofing work
Mention tight side passages, attached garages and parking limitations near the property. Access requirements may differ between the front and rear slopes.
What belongs in your quote
A clear quote sets out the materials, access and waste removal, as well as the repair itself. It should also explain what happens if opening the roof reveals further damage, so you know how any extra work will be agreed.
Use the roofing quotation checklist or understand the main cost factors.
