Matching repairs to the existing roof
Within Guiseley’s historic centre, the council records older stone-slate roofs alongside Welsh or blue slate and some later red tiles. That range matters when matching a repair: colour alone does not identify a compatible unit. Ask for the existing material, size and laying pattern to be recorded, and for the quotation to distinguish repairable covering from failed fixings or junctions.

Finding the cause
Ask the quotation to show the repair area and specify how replacement units fit the existing covering. Where chimney or valley defects are present, price those junctions explicitly. A new field of tiles will not automatically repair a failed flashing beside it.
Planning your roofing work
Mention sloping access, shared entrances and any low extension beneath the main roof. Discuss where replacement materials can be unloaded and stored.
What belongs in your quote
A clear quote sets out the materials, access and waste removal, as well as the repair itself. It should also explain what happens if opening the roof reveals further damage, so you know how any extra work will be agreed.
